Personal Information

Hey everyone! Welcome to my own personal professional blog! Just to give you a little information about myself, my name is Nicholas Anthony Nogueira. i was born in Agua Retorta, Sao Miguel and moved to Boston, MA as a child where I currently reside. I am currently attending the University of South Alabama in Mobile and I am majoring in English and History. My goal for the future is quite simple: I just want to be able to teach children. I am focusing more on the High School level at the moment and I would prefer to teach Literature or World History (either one would make me happy.)

What My Future Students Should Expect

I am really looking forward to becoming a teacher. I hope my future students enjoy working with me as much as I will enjoy working with them. Thanks to this course and the information I have learned, I will be a better teacher and actually have an idea on how I will run my classes. I think my classes will not only be educational for my students, but also a lot of fun too!

There have been so many things I have learned from this class this it is almost impossible to describe them all and use them in my own personal classes in the future. But there were definitely 4 or 5 that stood out the most that will definitely have an impact both on me and my future students. The first one is the use of blogs and posts on personal websites. before this semester, I was confused about what blogs really were. I now know that they can be used for educational purposes for both students and teachers. Since i will be a teacher in the dawn of the new computer age, I actually do plan on posting notes and podcasts onto a blog page (perhaps my own personal blog students can access 24/7.) The good thing about having my own teaching blog is that students will always have access to my notes for lectures, podcasts from different teachers, etc. This would be an exceptional way to teach my future kids.


Another tool I plan on using for my students are podcasts. I pride myself in knowing that I will be a prepared and intelligent teacher for my students, however I do not know everything. I will definitely tell my students to go and search the web or perhaps someones proffesional blog, for podcasts relating to our lecture or class in some way. It is vital that students here about information from a different source so to prevent monotonous learning from one teacher. It would also be good for me to learn from and interact with my students a bit. I look forward to this aspect the most in my teaching career.

The use of Wikipedia I think is wonderful. I am fully aware of its dangers and mis-leading information, but I find it to be a great tool (especially for literature or historical events which i plan on teaching.) As long as you check your sources, you will be fine I believe. It would be good for students and myself to check sources because they are going to have to do it at some point in their lives so it makes sense to get use to it. Wikipedia also gives links to other wikipedia sites as well as other sites on the web. Overall a great website and something everyone should take advantage of in my opinion.


One final tool I plan on using that I find to be the most important of all the tools I have learned about is Teachertube. Teachertube (like YouTube) is an educational video service where teachers post videocasts about any subject they want. I personally think the best way to learn anything is to both here and visualize what the person is saying. You can only get this in the classroom (with teachers who balance out the two) and on TeacherTube. Sometimes teachers in the classroom can get tedious with the subject they are teaching. Unlike YouTube, TeacherTube only supplies educational videos and podcasts to students and teachers everywhere. This is surely a tool i will use because students can go on the computer and access all types of links and videos for the subject matter that they are going to learn.

All and all, the things I have learned for my future profession have been extraordinary. I plan on using most of these tools in my class because as said before, we are now living in the computer age. We must adjust to the times in order to provide a better educational environment for our students. All these things (along with my intuition and love for teaching) will make me prepared for my future job and hopefully, a much better teacher.

Bringing Myself and My Students to the 21st Centruy

The amount of information on new world education I have learned from the EDM 310 class is extraordinary. From podcasts to Microsoft Excel, I am now ready to help bring future generations inot the 21st century. What does this mean for future students exactly? Future students in my classes will be taught hands-on material, but will also be given podcasts to listen to and blogs to read because there is so much out there. I think of myself as an intelligent person, but I do not know everything. I will encourage my students to go out and explore just like I had to do for this class. By doing so, they will be able to learn from other sources and not just from me. This is not only benifiall for the kids, but to me as well. As I always say, education never stops.
